NALEO Educational Fund Redistricting Initiative

National Institute on Redistricting
Redistricting 2011: Shaping the Next Decade of Latino Political Progress
February 8-9, 2011 Washington, D.C.

The National Redistricting Institute was a national gathering of Latino elected officials and community leaders who will be involved in line drawing or community mobilization. The primary goal of the National Redistricting Institute was to enhance the governance and organizing skills of Latino leaders to help ensure they become effective public servants and advocates for their communities during the 2011 redistrictings. Redistricting is a key component of our representative democracy and in 2011 redistricting will define our nation's political geography for the next ten years. For the Latino community, this redistricting cycle will determine whether Latinos have fair opportunity to choose their representatives during the electoral process. Thus, it is critical that Latinos participate fully and effectively in the 2011 redistricting, both as elected leaders who draw maps for jurisdictions throughout the country, and as community members who provide input into the redistricting process.

The National Redistricting Institute was held, February 8-9, 2011 in Washington, D.C. Below is the agenda for the Institute. Click on the links to access presentations from the Institute.
